Story of Movie Luka Chhuppi

Vishnu Trivedi, a failing politician in the tiny village in Mathura, is campaigning to stop live-in relationships, believing that they are an embarrassment to Indian traditional culture. At the same time, the party is beginning to launch a full-on campaign against film actor Nazeem Khan who is accused of having an intimate relationship with his girlfriend, which is precisely the reason for his resentment against live-in relationships.

The daughter of Vishnu Rashmi is offered an internship with a local news channel. She begins working with the station’s top reporter Vinod “Guddu” Kumar Shukla and his closest friend, Abbas Sheikh. Guddu and Rashmi are in love together, and Guddu proposes to the girl. Not yet ready to marry, she proposes a live-in affair. He, who is more traditional and perhaps afraid of Vishnu, is not convinced. Abbas suggests that they try live-in relationships during their business trip of 20 days to Gwalior as a compromise. They both agree.

They live in a secluded area, pretending to be married. They eventually become closer and have sex a few times. Their snarky neighbor, Mrs. Srivastava, sees them in one of these sex occurrences and is suspicious of their marriage. To make things more difficult when asked about their wedding date, they misinterpret their answers in response to questions regarding their wedding date. She plans to rally all the neighbors to disperse the couple the next day; however, Guddu and Rashmi have come up with fake wedding pictures and souvenirs over the weekend, leaving her plans in limbo. After two weeks, Guddu declares his love for her, and she accepts his proposal to marry him. Before they depart, Gwalior Guddu’s cousin Babulal can see the two together, watches them, looks at the wedding photos, and concludes that they got married.

The next day, Babulal brings Guddu’s entire family to their home, and they criticize him for having a romantic relationship. Guddu and Rashmi realizing that the family is willing to be a part of a marriage, but not cohabitation, are not willing to admit it. The entire group travels home to Mathura to meet the family of Rashmi and share the news with them. Vishnu, however, is delighted to learn that his daughter has decided to marry instead of living together. He also outlines the fatal consequences if they had been cohabiting instead. Incredulous, the couple refuses to confess the truth.

Even though they start living as married couples, they are unhappy that they’re legally married. They try several times to marry in secret, only to be constantly surrounded by strangers; in the last-ditch effort, they attempt to be married at a mass wedding ceremony. Vishnu is the main guest, gets the couple red-handed. In a state of anger, they confess that they’d been living together.

After his family, too, is catching the pace, Guddu reveals to Vishnu that the primary reason for his failure to win elections is his inability to change. Since most voters in the segment are young, who believe in modernity, opposing these strategies would be equivalent to a lack of support. Guddu can convince Vishnu to accept live-in relationships and eventually weds Rashmi and receives his approval.

The story concludes with Guddu and Rashmi attending a rally arranged by Vishnu, who is revealed to have joined forces with Nazeem to support his election campaign.
