Hera Pheri Movie
Hera Pheri (“Monkey business” in the English Language) is a 2000 Indian Comedy film in Hindi, directed by Priyadarshan and starring Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, and Tabu. The film is an adaptation of the 1989 Malayalam movie Ramji Rao Speaking, inspired by the 1971 TV film See The Man Run.
The film inspired the sequel called Phir Hera Pheri, which was released in 2006. It was the first instalment to the Hera Pheri franchise.
Through the years, the film has since become a cult film. It was recognized as the top Bollywood comedy ever made in an online poll in the form of The Indian Express.

The film starts with Ghanshyam, an alias Shyam (Sunil Shetty), a man searching for a job in an institution. He failed to land the job, despite having a late father’s work at the BankBank. In the course of his work, one day, he runs into a man named Raju (Akshay Kumar). Shyam mistakenly believes Raju is a pickpocket and starts to pursue him.
But, he realizes that he is not, and the reverse happens when Raju runs after Shyam when he thinks he might be an actual pickpocket. Raju suffers from problems having to deal with his dreams and the unfriendly individuals he works with. He’s not able to hold his job and is facing numerous issues.
Shyam seeks out the garage of an individual named Baburao Gannapatrao Apte (Paresh Rawal, affectionately known in Babu Bhaiya) and manages to obtain a place to rent after making concessions on the amount of Babu Bhaiya’s booze. He is unaware that Raju lives in the same home in a rental agreement and hasn’t paid in the past two years.
The three of them get into hilarious situations, which usually involve Raju initiating Shyam and purposely trying to provoke a fight Babu Bhaiya has to solve. In the course of one fight, the girl Anuradha Shivshankar Panikkar (Tabu) shows up. She attempts to persuade Shyam to accept the Non-Objection Certificate to get an interview at the BankBank. If Shyam does not agree, Raju hatches a plot to force him to sign the documents.
Shyam discovers that Raju has lied and forces him to sign the papers. That is the moment that the rivalry between the two begins. A former acquaintance from Shyam, Kharak Singh (Om Puri), arrives at his home to ask for the money that Shyam obtained from Kharak as an advance. Kharak demands Shyam repay the loan in the shortest time possible; otherwise, his sister’s wedding could be annulled.
Shyam discovers she knows that Raju has been lying to his mother by pretending to be an engineer. Anuradha is preparing a resignation letter while she is at it and then gives it to Shyam. She tears it up over her mentally ill mother and the horrible conditions in her house. In the end, Raju is questioned by him, and he confesses that he is looking for his mom to be happy.

Their lives take an unexpected twist when they receive an unexpected call from Gangster Kabeera (Gulshan Grover), an unintentional number destined for the owner of Star Fisheries, Mr Devi Prasad (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). The incorrect number results from a mistake in the directory of phone numbers, which makes Star Fisheries’ number Star Garages.
Kabeera is a terrorist and a kidnapper who believes the culprit is Devi Prasad, who tells him that his daughter Rinku has been kidnapped. He asks for an amount of ransom. Listening in on the conversation between Kabeera and Shyam, Raju decides to play an online game.
This game sees Shyam asking Devi Prasad to pose as the kidnapper and asking for twice the ransom that will resolve their money-related issues. Shyam and Babu Bhaiya first resent the idea but eventually give in after Raju convincingly explains that, even though it’s not right, the game is a fantastic opportunity to earn some money and possibly even save the life of a person.
They contact Deviprasad, the true Deviprasad and demand a double ransom. In their initial attempt, they don helmets as a disguise. Still, they are blocked by the police, headed by sub-inspector Prakash (Mukesh Khanna) (called in secret by Devi Prasad’s personal assistant). Kabeera is later informed that the ransom has been increased by two. They contact Deviprasad again and request an unbeatable double ransom.
In their second attempt, they don Zorro costumes to conceal their identities. They then reveal their identities before Devi Prasad to win his confidence and attempt to save Rinku from kidnappers. However, she realizes Shyam is a fraud and Kabeera is alerted. A massive fight involving Kabeera’s gang members, the police and Kharak and his men, who are furious at the inability to return the money, occurs. Rinku was saved by the three of them and then brought back the Devi Prasad.
Babu Bhaiya and Shyam go home, hoping to find Raju, who has the funds; however, they discover Raju missing. In believing that he had committed fraud, they called the police to confess the deed. However, Raju comes back and discloses that he went to pay back the money to the creditors. Police arrive and, upon seeing the cash, take the three.
In the final scene, Devi Prasad comes to the trio’s rescue and convinces the authorities that this was an accident and rescues the trio, and they head home richer than ever. The film closes with the trio receiving a prank phone call from Devi Prasad’s grandaughter Rinku.
