Father of Mahesh Babu, Mr. Krishna Dies

Mr Krishna, father of superstar mahesh babu, passed away today morning at a city based private super specialty hospital. He was 80 years old. His body will be kept at his residence till the funeral arrangements are made.

Mr Krishna, who started out as Ghattamaneni Sivarama Krishna Murthy, has acted in 350 movies and was one of the best actors of his generation. He was also a popular director and produced several hit movies. He was awarded the Padma Bhushant in 2009.

He had been suffering from multiple ailments over the past few months including chest pain, fever and breathing problems. He was recently shifted to the hospital due to deteriorating health conditions.

Last month, he suffered a heart attack while shooting for a film in Hyderabad. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery. After recovering from the surgery, he was discharged from the hospital. But since then he was under constant medical supervision.

His son Mahesh Babu tweeted, “I’m deeply saddened by the passing of my father. My prayers go out to his family members. May God rest his soul.”

The veteran actor was known for playing pivotal roles in many hit films like ‘Nuvvu Naaku Nacchavai’, ‘Muthyala Muggu’, ‘Kanthasree Kamalakar’, ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari’, ‘Rajadhi Raja’, ‘Guruvayoorappam’, ‘Thirumadhuram’, ‘Agni Parva’, ‘Vishnuvardhan’ etc.

He won three National Film Awards – Best Supporting Actor for ‘Nuvvu Naakku Nachave’ (1962), Best Character Artiste for ‘Muthyala Muggulu’ (1964) and Best Comedian for ‘Rajadhi Rani’ (1965).

He acted in about 200 movies in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam languages. He received four state awards for best character artiste for ‘Muththala Muggu’. He was one among the few actors who did not act in Hindi cinema.

His family moved to Mumbai, Maharashtra, India where he completed high school education. He studied economics at Osmania University. In 1996, he joined Film Institute of India (FII). There, he learned acting under directors like K. Raghavendra Rao and Bapu.

Ghattamaneni Maheswara Rao was born on 9 August 1976 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. His father, Mahesh Babu, was one of the most popular actors in South Indian cinema. His mother, Vijaya Nirmala, was a film actress.

He had three siblings – Lakshmi Narasimha Rao, Siva Prasad Rao and Ramya Krishnan. His brother Lakshmi Narasimham was also an actor while his sister Ramya Krishnamurthy became a playback singer.

His family moved to Mumbai, Maharashtra, India where he completed high school education. He studied economics at Osmania University. In 1996, he joined Film Institute of India (FII). There, he learned acting under directors like K. Raghavendra Rao and Bapu.

In 1999, he won the National Award for Best Debut Actor for his role in Peddarayudu. However, it was his performance in Baahubali: The Beginning that catapulted him into stardom.

The actor had a string of hits in the late 2000s and early 2010s, including co-starring Venkatesh, co-starring Mahesh Babu, co-starred alongside Nani, and co-starring Jayasudha and Nagendra Babu.

In 2011 he received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu for his performance in. His performances in films like and won him several awards. In 2013, he was nominated in three categories at the 2nd International Indian Film Academy Awards, winning one for Lifetime Achievement. won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu.
